The Metallurgical Institute „Kemal Kapetanović“ Zenica of The University in Zenica (earlier called „Hasan Brkić“) exists and works successfully on the teritoty of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 47 years.

The Institute, whose founder was „Željezara Zenica“ Zenica, started its work on 10th October, in 1961 with 165 employees. Intensive development of steel industry in that time such as the need for usage of world achievements were the motive for esbablishing one professional institution that will solve present technological problematic and will be occupied with scientific and research work in that field. For that purpose The Institute was registred as scientific and research institution in the field of steel industry and other similar branches.

The basic research concept,based on practical researches with purpose of promotion of present technologies and development and usage of new technologies and products has been presented in whole work of The Institute so far.

During its development The Institute was adjusting to organizational changes and needs, in the beggining to Željezara Zenica itself and later to The Mining and Metallurgical Combine.

In its work so far The Insitute was few times carring out organizational and status changes which were limited by conditions of contributing, market demands, law regulations etc.

Today The Metallurgical Institute „Kemal Kapetanović“ Zenica of The University in Zenica works as an organizational unit of The University in Zenica.
