The dominant activity of the laboratory are nondestructive testings of products and semi-products of metal industry and testings of facilities and infrastructure facilities before and during the exploitation.
In addition, laboratory deals and microstructural testings of materials by scanning with electronic microscopy.

Nondestructive testings include the following types of tests:

1 Radiographic tessting of weld joints (products, structures and plants) and castings,

2 Ultrasound testing of weld  joints(products, structures and plants),

3 Ultrasound testing of products and semi- products (castings, forgings, bearings, etc.)

4. Ultrasound measurement of wall thickness (the components of various plants in the course of exploitation),

5 Measuring thickness of inflicted layers to metal products,

6 Measuring roughness of metal surfaces,

7 Magnetic testing of weld joints (products, structures and plants), castings, forgings and other semi- products or products of metal  industry,

8 Testing with penetrators of weld joints(products, structures and plants), castings, forgings  and other semi -products and products of metal industry and

9 Visual testing of weld joints, and semi- products and products in metal industry, an overview of the plant components and structures in the course of exploitation, including endoscopic testing of the interior surfaces inaccessible for direct visual examination.

For mentioned testings laboratory is equipped with appropriate equipment which is fully compatible with the requirements of relevant European standards that apply to the assessment of quality and  products equivalence, and construction and plants after the production or suitability of individual components for further exploitation.
This laboratory has the approval of the Croatian Register of Shipping (HRB ) for conducting the activities.

Important implemented tasks are:
 
• testing and evaluation of the situation of boiler plants (blocks 5, 6 and 7 TE "Kakanj", blocks 1 and 6 TE "Tuzla" , coal boilers UKO-1, UKO 2, 3 and lye boiler LUKO 4 in firm "Natron"Maglaj);

• Testing weld joints at Steel structures of bridges("Viaduct Bijela"," Dobrinja", "Begov Han,"  "Klasnice", "Ošanića," "Kakanj" etc.),

 • testing weld joints at different pipe systems, pressure vessels and installations in the preparation or during the exploitation (pipe systems, and containers under pressure of boiler plant of blocks 5, 6 and 7 TE "Kakanj", pipe system of boiler plant of block 5 "Tuzla", steam lines of blocks 5 and 6 TE "Kakanj," pipe installation systems in the electrical furnace, Arcelor Mittal Zenica, etc.
